In the dawn of the WRC's mid season, and as the next year's calendar has to be announced, here it sounds like a crisis on hand.

FIA is demanding and additional €100,000 for the next season by the end of June 08, 2012. It says the new fee is for timing and tracking the events and also for television coverage. This comes at a time when Nokia, the prime promoter moved out of the sponsorship after Round 6 of 2012 Season and the future of WRC looks dull. As we all know how much funding is needed and the role of the sponsor in such mega events hold.

The organisers are furious saying "The existing costs are already high with €140,000 calendar fee they pay and the additional fee for the timing and tracking used to come free until now, and infact North One Sports [NOS] channel used to pay for the local tv rights to be broadcasted by them".

FIA's WRC Commission president Jarmo Mahonen explains that "The extra money is for standardisation of the timing, tracking and media coverage across the season." This is quite true because, that a particular network is not interested in extending the coverage across certain regions and it only forms a sort of a blackhole in the interests of the fans across the globe. He also pointed out the loss incurred by NOS during the 2011 season was also a contributing factor.
If this issue is not resolved soon, then the future of WRC looks very much scary. Hope everything sorts out at the earliest.

Just keeping our fingers crossed!
